We are as young
as our spine feels!
The way our spine feels depends on the conditions of our nerves.
Chiropractic Physicians are best known for their excellent results in improving back, neck and head pain, but few people know that chiropractors are actually specialists in the nervous system. They work mainly on the spine because all major nerves that serve the limbs and organs in our body come out of the spine. If it were not for our nerves, the muscles would not be able to move our arms or legs. Without the right signals from our brains, our organs cannot function at their optimum level. When a subluxation is present muscle-skeletal factors around one or more vertebrae interfere with the normal function of the nerves, affecting the nerves' abilty to transmit information from the brain to the rest of the body and viceversa.
This is why many patients report improvements in many different conditions after they started getting continued chiropractic care.
What is PAIN?
Pain is a feeling of marked discomfort and suffering in a particular part of the body. Whenever there is an injury or a bump, our nerves send the signal to our brains that something is wrong in that area and that it needs our attention.
No! Pain is an indication in the body that there is a problem going on. It is not normal and it should NEVER be ignored.
Is the word "nervous" related to the nerves?
The word "nervous" means "relating to or affecting the nerves," when we feel nervous our agitated, it means part of our nervous system is in overdrive.
What kinds of things affect the nerves and cause subluxations?
There are three major sources of interferences to the nervous system, also called subluxations: toxins, traumas and (negative) thoughts.
Just as our nerves send a signal to the brain when there is an outer cause for pain (for example a bruise), they also send special signals when we introduce something into our bodies that is not good for us. When there are toxins inside our bodies, the nerves react by sending a signal of pain. Negative thoughts can also cause subluxations when they produce an overload in the nervous system.
If I don't have any pain, does that mean I enjoy perfect health?
Being free of pain is a very good thing. However we need to keep in mind that when it comes to chronic conditions pain is the last resource of our bodies to call our attention to the problem. Chiropractors are trained to recognize the early signs of health problems related to subluxations.
Can an unhealthy spine affect internal organs?
An unhealthy spine can have a negative impact in the overall health of a person.
Henry Winsor, M.D. had questions about Chiropractic and decided to perform an experiment: he dissected human and animal cadavers to see if there was a relationship between any diseased internal organs discovered on autopsy and the vertebrae and nerves that went to the organs.
The University of Pennsylvania gave Dr. Winsor permission to carry out his experiments. In a series of three studies he dissected a total of 75 human and 72 cat cadavers. He found a nearly 100% correlation between "minor curvatures" of the vertebrae and diseases of the internal organs. Let us examine some of these disease categories:
Heart Disease
All 20 cases with heart and pericardium conditions had the upper five thoracic vertebrae misaligned (T1-5).
Lung Disease
All 26 cases of lung disease had spinal misalignments in the upper thoracic area.
Stomach Disease
All nine cases of spinal misalignment in the mid-thoracic (T5-9) area had stomach disease.
Liver Disease
All 13 cases of liver disease had misalignments in the mid-thoracic area (T5-9).
Gall Bladder Disease
All five cases with gallstone disease had spinal misalignments in the mid-thoracic area (T5-9).
Pancreas Disease
All three cases with pancreas disease had spinal misalignments in the mid-thoracic area (T5-9).
Spleen Disease
All 11 cases with spleen disease had spinal misalignments in the mid-thoracic area (T5-9).
Kidney Disease
All 17 cases with kidney disease were out of alignment in the lower thoracic area (T10-12).
Prostate and Bladder Disease
All eight cases with prostate and bladder disease had the lumbar vertebrae misaligned (L1-3).
Uterus Disease
The two cases with uterine conditions had the second lumbar misaligned.
Dr. Winsor's results were published in The Medical Times. Other researchers have confirmed his discovery. Today medical literature contains many experiments proving chiropractic's theory and effectiveness. Dr. Henry Winsor's insights and research were prophetic indeed.
